K-7 Multi-exposure mode
Multi-exposure can be set by going to the 2nd screen in the Record Mode Menu Settings. You can select the number of shots from 2 to 9. You can also select Auto EV adjustment, which if "on", adjusts the exposure based on the number of shots you're combining.
When shooting in Live View, you will see an instant review of the shot just taken.
Immediately after the shot is displayed, you can start composing the next shot. The first or previous shot is greyed out and you can now move the full color view of the next shot around until it aligns or overlaps the way you want.
You can repeat this until your last shot in the specified sequence (2-9 shots) is recorded, at which point the camera generates a composite image using your multiple exposures which you can review on the K-7's sharp and detailed 3" display.
It should also be noted that during review you can delete an image and start the multi-exposure sequence again. The K-7 will save the composite image as one file, and the multi-exposures as separate files. Although I did this quick experiment using JPEG file format, you can shoot in RAW mode.
(Note: The lens used to produce these images was the FA 100mm Macro. Action hero figures used for this test provided courtesy of my grand kids.)

Looks like a great creative option. I'm lookin forward to try it...

That's pretty cool. Of course the basic feature has been there since the K10D, but the live-view overlay adds a lot of flexibility.
Bonjour,
Multi-exposure was already featured on the K10D. I tried it at home but not yet outside.
Please have a look at http://pentaxworld.com/forum/photo-techniques/motion-blur-how-do-you-approach-this-technique/msg30881/#msg30881
Apologies for my point not being clear enough. I should have said that with advancements like Live View, multi-exposure mode now becomes more useful and accurate since you can use the "overlay" feature to more precisely align the separate shots?
Ned
Being able to delete and then go back and add a different image or re-do you work will be very helpful. I was trying out a couple of cameras and the Pentax brand won out due to all the in-camera editing options (got the K2000). The convenience is wonderful and saves me/keeps me from sitting at the computer fiddling. Ordered up the K7 this week! Can't wait to try out the added features it offers.
The enhancements made to multi-exposure make this feature really useful! I used the feature on my K20D but the overlay in live-view and ability to delete an image and move on, are the marks of a company with photographers as central visionaries. Kudos!
This is a very nice improvement on the k10ds multi-exposure mode!!!
It's great that it keeps the seperate files aswell as the composited image. I just hope this will be added to the HDR mode in a future firmware update along with iso and shutter speed controls in movie mode.
I'm glad to see Pentax has kept the multi-exposure feature. I've often wondered how feasible/usable such a feature would be on a DSLR, but I've never been able to try it myself since I've only used point-and-shoot digitals until now; I'm still faithfully using my *ist 35mm until my K-7 arrives!
Ned, I would make a suggestion, though, for another blog entry similar to this one. I think another feature the K-7 possesses that has not yet been examined is the ability to automatically correct for chromatic aberration on certain lenses. I'm not sure if this is something you can thoroughly demonstrate, but I would certainly like to hear more about it.
In a recent photo magazine (I believe it might have been Shutterbug?) the editor lamented how DSLRs can correct automatically for lens distortion but not chromatic aberration. This was part of a wish list of features he wanted to see on DSLRs.
It seems that editor would get his wish with the K-7! However, they have not yet reviewed the camera, so I doubt the reading public knows this breakthrough has been realized by Pentax! Additionally, nobody has even mentioned how this greatly enhances the value and quality of the camera when used in conjunction with the already excellent lenses.
This is super cool. Thanks for the explanation
